Plot Summary
- Jon is awakened by bag pipe music after his first day up north
- He is meeting the school principal for the first time
- The principal Walski, “eyed him grimly”
- He finds out that Walski does not want him to teach
- He was fired before he began teaching
- He was the evening source of entertainment as everybody was listening in to Walski’s message to the school board on the radio
His uncle strictness continued….
· Tea, powered milk and sugar are set on plywood, not directly on the table
