Definition of theme:
Is the message that an author wishes to convey through a work. It is the main message of a piece of writing.Survival-
1. Katniss had to provide for her family when her father passed away and her mother fell into a deep depression.
2. Katniss had to hunt to support her family.
3. People in the seam had to take tesserae to survive, which increased their chances to be selected for the games
4. Katniss has to survive the games.
5. She has to pretend to love Peeta in order for him to survive by getting gifts from her sponsors.
6. She has to make alliances with Rue, Peeta and Thresh to survive. Rue helps her destroy the Career's food supplies; Peeta's star crossed lovers act wins support from sponsors and Thresh allows Katniss to escape during the feast.
Maturity-
1. Katniss has to be mature when her
father dies and she has to take care of her sister Prim.
2. Katniss has to be mature when she
takes Prim’s place at the reaping.
3. Katniss shows maturity when she helps
Rue- she sacrifices her independence when she forms an alliance.
4. Katniss shows maturity through compassion
when she honors Rue’s death by holding her as she dies, singing to her and covering
her dead body as a sign of respect.
5. Katniss matures when she stops thinking
only about herself and tries to save Peeta.
6. Katniss shows maturity when she
forgives her mother. She starts to understand what her mother went through
after her father’s death when she realizes that she cannot live without Peeta.
7. Katniss shows maturity when she feels
sad about Thresh’s death. She is starting to care about other people not just herself.
The critical moment when she realizes that the games have
changed her occurred when she stepped off the train in district 12 and nothing
was the same.
Maturity-
1. Katniss originally has only one
friend, Gale, her hunting partner.
2. Katniss forms a friendship with Rue
who reminds her of her sister Prim.
3. Katniss slowly forms a friendship
with Peeta. She realizes that she does not want to live in a world without him.
4. Katniss admits that under different circumstances
Thresh would be her friend.
5. Katniss, despite the fact that he is
difficult, forms a friendship with Haymitch. They can communicate through
gifts.
6. Katniss forms a friendship with Cinna
as he prepares her for the games.
All the friendships that Katniss acquires throughout
the games allows her to win the gam
